END AND BEGINNING
Written By Jan Begemann | Date 2009-11-19

With the 94.7 last weekend an era has come to it's end. For the first time since I don't even know how many years Raleigh will not be the bike sponsor anymore for Doug Ryder's MTN Cycling Team. In fact Raleigh will not sponsor any professional cyclist in 2010. So after many years with riders winning races and SA titles on Raleigh road and mountainbikes there will definitely be no title for us next year. I personally have only seen the last 2 years, and I enjoyed working with Doug and his riders and especially Gary Blem, their team mechanic. Thanks, Gary, for the excellent feedback I got from you over the past 2 years. I wish all the best to you, Doug, and your riders and I really hope in a few years time we'll see your team riding the Tour de France! Since last weekend this is the past. So what will the future be for Raleigh? Where is Raleigh going to go? Some have already noticed that it's gone a bit quiet around Raleigh. And all this is why. After the "Doug Ryder era" we simply need some time to take a deep breath and think. And we are thinking a lot at the moment, because we basically need to re-define our brand. So we will use the model year 2010 as a kind of break in PR and marketing, because redefining a brand takes time. So yes, we are quiet at the moment, but it's because we are very very busy. There will be an all new Raleigh brand, and we'll launch it with our model year 2011. In the meantime we will continue selling great value for money bikes as we always did :-). Jan

Dear Jan. After having completed the Freedom Challenge 09 on my old (2007) Marathon four, with some magnificient assistance from your wonderful staff in getting spare hangers sent to Willowmore, I have always kept an eye on developments at Raleigh. I look forward to your developments and hope to have a new ride for the Freedom Challenge 2011. (Perhaps a sponsored bike?) Look forward to seeing your developments. Regards Sean
